Open Letter to Prime Minister Carney: Supporting 2SLGBTQI+ Seniors, July 7, 2025
The Senior Pride Network Canada (SPNC/RFAC) has written a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney, asking for action to support older 2SLGBTQI+ people, elders and seniors.
Our letter explains the struggles many older 2SLGBTQI+ people face due to years of discrimination. These challenges make it more difficult to access inclusive healthcare, find safer housing, and achieve financial stability.
We’ve asked the government to focus on five key actions:
Train healthcare workers to provide culturally humble and inclusive care.
Create safer, affordable housing that meets the needs of 2SLGBTQI+ seniors.
Implement robust data collection to understand and address the needs of our community.
Appoint a government official to focus on the issues of 2SLGBTQI+ seniors.
Fix unfair pension rules that create barriers for our community.
This letter is our way of standing up for the dignity, safety, and pride of 2SLGBTQI+ seniors.
